Kentucky Legislature Overrides Veto of Charter School Funding Bill

The Kentucky legislature voted to override Governor Andy Beshear’s veto of House Bill 9, which will establish a public funding mechanism for charter schools, NBC’s LEX 18 reported.

Charters have been legal in Kentucky since 2017, but none have successfully been created because lawmakers did not provide a permanent funding mechanism for them. The new charter funding law will apportion state and local tax dollars to charter schools based on student attendance, and also requires that at least two charters be created as pilot projects, one in Louisville and one in northern Kentucky, according to LEX 18.
